At last! The Audio Authority BlueBeam C-1071A IR to Bluetooth Converter for PlayStation 3 brings IR remote control to the PS3! This "A" model brings improvements to it's predecessor in the form of automatic Bluetooth pairing, improved IR compatibility, a new IR repeater mode, simultaneous internal/external IR reception, and optimized battery power management, making an already great product even better.
It is a widely accepted fact that the PS3 is much more than just a game console - it is also an outstanding Blu-ray disc player and a powerful multi-media interface. But anyone who has tried to use the PS3 in a home theater system knows how disappointing it is that Sony did not include IR remote control capabilities. The omission makes it just about impossible to use a single universal remote control to control the whole system. There have been some other valiant attempts to find work-arounds, but Audio Authority has come up with a solution that is (in our opinion), more elegant than anything else on the market.
What may not be immediately obvious from looking at the pictures is the small size of this device. When placed on a shelf, next to a PS3, it is about the same height as the bottom part of the PS3, or about a third of the overall height of the PS3. And of course it also works perfectly with IR repeater systems and can be placed completely out of sight when so used.
At the time of this writing, the C-1071A stands alone as the only Bluetooth to IR converter on the market that can operate completely wirelessly, powered solely by a pair of AA batteries (included)., but it can also accept supplemental power from the PS3 USB port, or from the optional 571-013 AC power supply (add to your cart below).
Like most Audio Authority products, the C-1071A comes with a one year limited warranty from the manufacturer.
The BlueBeam is designed to allow a Sony Playstation 3 to be integrated into an IR remote control system. The PS3 accepts only Bluetooth® commands, but the BlueBeam allows any universal IR remote that is capable of learning the PS3 commands to control the PS3. The programming method is similar for most learning remotes and home control systems. You may download CCF files here [links to AAC site] if your remote accepts CCF files.
